Valentina Mangano is Associate Professor of Parasitology (SSD VET-06) at the Department of Translational Research and New Technologies in Medicine and Surgery.
Her research concerns the epidemiology and immunology of malaria. Her studies include: the development of immunity to Plasmodium falciparum; the transmission of the parasite from humans to carrier; the spread of drug resistance in endemic areas of Sub-Saharan Africa. She collaborates in operational research projects aimed at improving access to and quality of malaria prevention, diagnosis, and treatment services in endemic countries.
She teaches Parasitology and Immunology in the degree and specialisation courses of the medical school.
As a member of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Peace Sciences (CISP), she promotes training and dissemination activities on issues of global health and sustainability.
Professor Mangano was Deputy Director of CISP from 17 January 2020 to 31 October 2022.
She has been Director of CISP since 1 November 2022.
