Valentina Mangano is Associate Professor of Parasitology (SSD VET-06) at the Department of Translational Research and New Technologies in Medicine and Surgery.
Her research activity concerns the epidemiology and immunology of malaria. She studies the factors involved in the development of immunity to Plasmodium falciparum and in the transmission of the parasite from humans to vectors in Sub-Saharan African populations. She also collaborates in operational research projects aimed at improving access to and quality of malaria prevention, diagnosis and treatment services in endemic countries.
She teaches Parasitology and Immunology in degree and specialization courses at the Medical School.
She is Head of the Department of Parasitology, University Microbiology Section of the Azienda Ospedaliera Universitaria Pisana.
As a member of the Interdisciplinary Centre “Scienze per la Pace” (CISP), she promotes and participates in training activities on global health issues.
Since 17 January 2020 she has been Deputy Director of CISP.
