School description

In 2022 CISP established the three-year Training School for Trainers and Educators on Peace Research issues, based on the positive experience of the School for Educators which was started in 2019.

Our educational offer covers the following topics:

• Peace education and non-violent communication

• Mediation and transformative conflict management

• Organizational development

• Migration and interculturalism

• Sustainable development and socio-economic transition 

TARGET GROUP

The three-year school is for professional educators who intend to follow refresher courses or specialize in specific subjects, socio-educational operators, youth workers, youth leaders, school teachers, university students, volunteers in associations, and in general anyone interested in the topics presented. 

TEACHING METHOD

The courses offered by the school will be partly theoretical and partly experiential. 

The theoretical part is aimed at presenting approaches and models useful to provide the trainer with a background of knowledge on the thematic areas of the school. 

The experiential part is characterized by an active and dynamic approach, with significant laboratory experiences that are tackled with a sufficient theoretical basis. Specifically, the participants will be personally involved in interactive lessons in which they learn from direct experience and participation to simulations, guided exercises, group discussions, reflections and evaluations.

SCHOOL STRUCTURE

The structure of the three-year school includes compulsory courses and elective courses.

The school is for three years but there are no prerequisites, so students can start at any time. Students are required to complete 20 courses to complete the three-year school, each of which have a duration of between 6 and 8 hours. This corresponds to a total 20 credits.

The three-year school has developed its educational selection through three types of training interventions:

  1. Entry-level courses, which are introductory.
  2. Second-level courses, which build on an existing knowledge of the subject matter. To access these courses students are required to have already carried out basic training on the subject or to have professional experience as a trainer.
  3. Residential courses, on topics that change every year.

A total of 8 to 9 courses / modules can be activated in a year, each with a duration of 6 to 8 hours and being equivalent to one credit. Each year at least one course will be planned for each thematic area and one residential seminar. The compulsory and residential courses are “Entry-courses”, while “Second-level courses” can be chosen as elective credits.

It is possible to enrol either annually in the three-year school or in individual courses. Those who enrol for the entire year will be eligible for a reduced fee and will be given priority in enrolling in courses. Places not reserved for students enrolled annually will be available for students who wish to enrol in individual courses.

Students who have already attended individual courses offered by the school and wish to enrol in the three-year school will have automatic recognition of the courses already completed.

TRAINING COURSE STRUCTURE

The training course is structured in 5 thematic areas. Each area includes both mandatory and elective course.

MANDATORY COURSES:

For each mandatory course, it is sufficient to acquire 1 credit (8-hour module).

ELECTIVE COURSES:

Elective courses are all the courses offered by the school which are not indicated as compulsory. They can be courses in the four thematic areas of Knowledge, Know-How, Knowing how to be and Knowing how to be in groups, or courses in the fifth thematic area of Themes and Models.

The courses are chosen on the basis of the preferences expressed in the annual planning questionnaire, taking into consideration the rotation of thematic areas.

RESIDENTIAL COURSE:

Every year, usually in June or July, a residential course based on the themes of the school is organised. The course runs for three days over a weekend (from Friday to Sunday). The credits acquired from the residential course are included in the credits of your elective course choices.

CERTIFICATION OF LEARNING

Upon request (with the payment of € 16 for the stamp duty) a certificate of participation will be issued for each course or group of courses followed.

Participation in each short course involves the attribution of University Educational Credits (CFU), in the measure of 1CFU = 6/8 hours of training.

CERTIFICATE FOR THE THREE-YEAR SCHOOL FOR TRAINERS AND EDUCATORS

Students can request a Certificate of Participation for the three-year school, indicating the course completed and of the passing of the final exam, upon the fulfilment of the following 3 requirements:

  • having completed 10 credits of compulsory courses;
  • having obtained at least a further 10 credits of elective courses, of which:
    • at least 1 credit for courses in the KNOWING thematic area;
    • at least 1 credit for courses in the KNOW-HOW thematic area;
    • at least 1 credit for courses in the thematic area of KNOWING TO BE;
    • at least 1 credit for courses in the thematic area of KNOWING HOW TO BE IN A GROUP;
    • at least 2 credits for a residential course.
  • having passed a final exam consisting of planning and conducting a training workshop, within the Regulations of the final test of the three-year School for Trainers and Educators.

COURSE COSTS

The cost of each individual course is indicated in the course descriptions. Scholarships and a subsidised fee are available for the following categories:

  • students enrolled annually in the three-year course
  • students and recent graduates (within one year of graduation) of the University of Pisa
  • volunteers of the regional and universal civil service (currently in service or who have completed it for less than a year) at the University of Pisa
  • employees of the University of Pisa

There is also available one free scholarship for students of the Peace Studies degree of the University of Pisa and one free scholarship for economic reasons for all eligible students who wish to apply (upon presentation of a valid ISEE).

TRAINING STAFF

The teaching staff at the School is composed of the CISP Training Team and of external professionals involved according to the contents of the individual courses.

CARTA DEL DOCENTE

It is possible to utilize the €500 bonus of the Carta del Docente for all the purposes envisaged by article 1, paragraph 121, Law 107/2015 and in particular for initiatives consistent with the activities identified in the three-year plan of the training offer of the schools and of the National Training Plan, referred to in Article 1, paragraph 124, of Law no. 107 of 2015.

CISP POLICY

In choosing the teachers of the three-year school, CISP pays particular attention to the “Gender equality” policy, entrusting the teaching of the courses equally to both men and women trainers.

In designing the three-year School, CISP undertakes to align the individual courses with the objectives of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development.

The courses are carried out within the Quality Management System certified by the UNI EN ISO 9001:2015 standard.
